1190 Albany Avenue Brooklyn, New York 11203 May 14, 1984 The ARCADIAN 3626 Morrie Drive San Jose, California 95127 Dear Mr. Fabris: Enclosed is the new game Project Cyclops Radar Base. As mentioned earlier, this game will sell for $8. In fact, even though it has not been advertised, preliminary material mailed earlier has already resulted in orders. In a couple of weeks I'll send you another program that you may wish to publish. It's a math program but does not involve the usual addition, subtraction, etc. problems. The basic program is only about 100 bytes long (the calculations) but I'm going to add some sound and color as well as a nice display. It's an integer only program ideally suited to Astro-Basic manipulation. I hope you enjoy the enclosed game. Fred Rodney ---------------------------------------- PROJECT CYCLOPS RADAR BASE A Fred Rodney Cassette! TAPE LOADING: Enter :INPUT ;RUN GO. Start the tape and allow it to continue to play until the radar screen begins to warm up. Then stop the tape. INSTRUCTIONS: The automatic system is malfunctioning! It can still fire a shell as soon as a cyclops is detected by the radar. All is well except that the automatic guidance control has been hit by a cyclops laser blast. Now it is up to you to steer the shell. You must hit the cyclops in the eye and you must use the radar (they are too far away to see). Use joystick 1 (JX(1)) to guide the shell left or right. Hit the cyclops and you get 10 points AND an extra base (9 maximum). If you miss, you are still safe, but, you must hit the cyclops the next time. Miss the cyclops twice (consecutively) and by triangulation the cyclops will have a good idea about your general location. Should this happen, your radar system will automatically shut down. The closed circuit TV camera that is mounted on a hill behind you will broadcast to you the charge of the cyclops. From its eye it can fire a laser at your station. It will take back 1 base each time its blast hits your base structure. You can survive with 1 base, but not for long. Note: a score of 270+ will bring the cyclops out with every miss! PLAYING TIPS: Try to accumulate 9 bases early. On its initial charge, the cyclops will probably fire at you only once or twice. The cyclops will become more and more furious as you score more and more bases. Eventually, the cyclops will fire a maximum of 9 laser blasts (depending on your score). Should a cyclops position itself directly north of you, it will gain a tremendous amount of power, jam your guidance system and make your fired shell travel erratically. Also, the cyclops is safe in the lower left and right corners. You cannot guide your shell to these corners, and, since your system automatically fires in all cases, this will count as a miss. To replay, squeeze trigger 1. Good Luck! Stay Alert and Aim Well! If all else fails and the cyclops charges, pray that it misses your station. ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS: 1.
